St. Patrick Wellness and Physical Education

JUST RUN is a web-based fitness program, implemented by St. Pat's, designed to get everyone in the family running/walking and focused on reaching his/her own physical potential!  Online, your child's team will start their journey in Monterey, CA and finish in Boston, MA, combining individual miles to get to their destination!  Take advantage of this unique opportunity to run across the USA with your child and increase your fitness level in the process.  Hopefully, your child is filling out his/her JUST RUN Log Sheet every week!  If your child does not have a Log Sheet, please ask the homeroom teacher for another copy.  Please contact me with any questions @ mkunsman@saintpatrickschoolbryan.org

Keep encouraging your children to be active. There are lots of activities they can do no matter what the weather.  Try the following:

~ Run around the outside of the house as many times as your age

~ Get enrolled in extra-curricular activities

~ Take a hike or a bike ride as a family (weather-permitting)

~ Push-ups, Crunches, Jumping Jacks, Mountain Climbers, Twists, Leg Lifts (10 each, then start again!)

~ JUST RUN!!!

Blizzard Bags

Kindergarten - Grade 3

Day 1:  Stretch as we do in class for five minutes.  Pick your favorite music and dance for 30 minutes!  Cool down by doing the inhale/exhale breathing we do in class.  Stretch one last time.

Day 2:  Create a music band!  Find an instrument, get your siblings or cave-giver, and march around the house while playing your instrument!  Afterwards, see how long you can jog in-place.  Get your siblings in on this too!  Who can jog the longest?  Who can jog while playing the drums?  Finish with 20 jumping jacks.  Cool down as you did on Day 1.

Day 3:  If weather permits, build a snowman, create your own snow hill and go sledding, or try jogging in the snow!  To finish, walk around the outside of your house the same number as your age.  Make sure you bundle up and wear your boots, of course!  If the weather does not permit, choose the lesson from Day 1 or Day 2 and repeat.

Grades 4 - 8:

Day 1:  Stretch as we do in class for five minutes.  Leg Lifts - Do 20, each side.  Crunches - 20 to the front, 10 to each side.  Push-ups - Do 10, rest 30 seconds, do 10 more.  Jumping Jacks, Twists, Mountain Climbers - Do 20 each with no break in-between.  Cool down with upright stretches.

Day 2: Stretch for five minutes.  Jog in-place for 10 minutes, incorporating high knees on minutes 3, 6, and 9.  Now get your favorite music out and dance for 25 minutes.  If you have a hula hoop, this is a great tool for indoor fitness.  Try the hula hoop for five minutes.

Day 3:  If weather permits, build a snowman, create your own snow hill and go sledding, or try jogging in the snow!  To finish, walk around the outside of your house the same number as your age.  Make sure you bundle up and wear your boots, of course!  If the weather does not permit, choose a lesson from Day 1 or Day 2 and repeat.
